What a wonderful tough and amazing day out. The sun was fierce. The breeze most welcome. The sand-well…ever present. The Kalahari immense. I spotted a giraffe and a gemsbok today! The gemsbok came at a critical time as I was staring down 7 km’s to go in the blistering heat, in thick coarse sand and battling mentally. As if summoned, it ran past, sniffed the dry desert air and seemed to nod encouragingly (well at least that’s what I kept telling myself and it really helped)
The atmosphere in camp is uplifting as we review the day, form lifetime bonds and share parts of ourselves that few people get to know or see. It’s definitely a highlight of our adventure and one that I cherish.
Being competitive by nature, it’s been a constant reminder to do my best, no matter who or what is around me.
One of the key questions I keep asking my daughter Ruby is : Did you do your best? If you did then, that’s all you can ask for, no matter where you came in the race/event. Such sage advise! So, as I remind myself (and others way too often) It’s most important to take the advise you give to others. Today I did my best so my aim is to listen to this advise throughout!
So are you competing or doing your best?
